Multisystem Resilience: The Processes that Promote Positive Youth Development
This webinar will illustrate that resilience is a developmental process that requires the functioning of multiple systems within and outside the individual.
Our speaker will cover the importance of adopting a multisystem approach to understanding resilience and adaptation among diverse youth and their families. We will review research that addresses the developmental implications of ethnic-racial socialization, stress physiology, and parent-youth relationships. Specifically, we will discuss the impact of ethnic-racial socialization on youth’s adjustment in the context of both positive and negative family environments.
You’ll learn about the importance of integrating stress physiology in our understanding of resilient adaptation and be presented with empirical evidence to show that positive relationships with parents (both mothers and fathers) are crucial to the development of effective coping strategies, especially in terms of navigating race-related stress.
