Orientation for MHFA Instructor Candidates
As part of our commitment to improving the quality and consistency of Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) instruction across Maryland, we are introducing a required orientation for all Instructor Candidates receiving grant funding.
This one-hour virtual session is designed to better prepare candidates for the 3-day MHFA Instructor training and support their success from the very beginning.
Why This Orientation Matters
Many candidates enter the 3-day course without a full understanding of what’s expected – leading to uneven preparation and outcomes. This orientation addresses those gaps by giving candidates the tools and information they need to start strong.
The orientation webinar is delivered virtually and lasts approximately one hour. It provides an informal, supportive space for candidates to:
- Review required pre-course assignments
- Understand the course structure and training expectations
- Learn about post-course certification requirements
- Ask questions and connect with support before training begins
Who Should Attend?
- Required for: All Instructor Candidates receiving grant funding
- Highly recommended for: All tuition-based candidates (and may become required in the future)
This orientation is also available as an informational resource for anyone considering MHFA Instructor certification, offering a realistic look at the time commitment, costs, logistics, and responsibilities involved.
