Become a Mental Health First Aid Instructor!

When someone takes a Mental Health First Aid® Maryland class, they learn how to recognize the signs and symptoms of an emerging mental health problem or crisis, identify community resources, and link individuals in need of treatment and support to the proper resources. These classes are taught by certified instructors.

My Experience in a Mental Health First Aid Maryland Training Class

A few weeks ago, I joined the Mental Health Association of Maryland as its communications director. One huge reason I came to work here was the opportunity to share what MHAMD does all across the state of Maryland.

As I learned more about MHAMD, I became very intrigued by one of its programs called Mental Health First Aid Maryland.

Mental Health First Aid Core 8-Hour Class 11/2-11/3

The Core (Adult) Mental Health First Aid® class builds skills to help adults age 18 and older assist those who may be experiencing an emerging mental health problem or crisis. The Core (Adult) program teaches the signs and symptoms a person may see when someone is experiencing a common mental health problem such as depression, anxiety, psychosis or a substance use disorder. Participants learn the five-step ALGEE®Action Plan to assist someone who is going through a mental health crisis. Hands-on activities are used to aid the participant in understanding the disorders and how to help. The Core (Adult) program is available in both English and Spanish.

Youth Mental Health First Aid 8-Hour Class 10/5-10/6

The Youth Mental Health First Aid® class is designed for adults who work with youth ages 12-­17. The Youth program teaches signs and symptoms of mental health problems and how to differentiate potential problems from typical adolescent development. The five step ALGEE action plan is applied to situations that are an emerging crisis as well as crisis.  Hands-on activities are used to aid the participant in recognizing signs and symptoms of concern and how to help. The Youth Mental Health First Aid course is available in both English and Spanish.
