Understanding Black Perinatal Mental Health
About the Session: This webinar, held in recognition of Black Maternal Mental Health Week, aims to identify and explore key issues surrounding perinatal mental health within Black communities. It will also highlight areas of focus to improve both access to care and the quality of care for Black individuals navigating the perinatal period.
From this webinar, participants will be able to:

- Identify various perinatal mental health diagnoses
- Explore prevalence, risk factors, and the impact of perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (PMADs) on individuals and families
- Discuss the importance of understanding nuances of perinatal mental health within the Black community
About the Speaker: Kristen Brooks is the founder and lead clinician of Building Beyond Therapy Inc, a group therapy practice in Largo, MD. Kristen is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and holds a Perinatal Mental Health Certification (PMH-C) through Postpartum Support International (PSI). She has completed specialized trainings in Postpartum Mood Disorders with an emphasis on trauma and pregnancy and infant loss. Kristen is licensed in MD, DC and NC and is a Board Approved Supervisor for the MD Board of Social Work Examiners and the MD Board of Counselors & Therapists. She serves on the MD Maternal Health Improvement Task Force and has partnered with many local organizations, providers and hospitals to provide support for their perinatal populations.
