Dedicated volunteers help the Mental Health Association work toward our vision of a community free from prejudice where every individual has the opportunity to reach his or her potential. If you'd like to help, contact the volunteer coordinators listed below. Public Policy PEERS (Older
Adults) Just a few hours a week could change your life and the life of someone who needs you. The PEERS Volunteer Program matches seniors who are isolated and withdrawn with senior volunteers over age 52 who are willing to make home visits or provide telephone support to older adults living in Baltimore County. Volunteers choose the amount of time and the time periods when they are available to spend time with a partner. Older Adults Outreach MHAM has one of the few outreach and advocacy programs dedicated to the concerns of mental health and illness in aging adults. |
Children's
Mental Health Program: Do you love working with kids? Always had a theatrical flair? The Kids on the Block Puppet Troupe, an educational group of volunteers, is currently seeking folks to present puppet shows at area elementary schools. Training is provided, it's fun and worthwhile. click here for more information Mental
Health Players Being a Mental Health Player is a fun way to volunteer, educate the community and enjoy camaraderie with other dedicated actors! Using role play and interactive audience participation, the troupe expands awareness and educates community members about mental health issues, mental illnesses, relationship problems, substance abuse and a comprehensive range of societal problems. Applicants need not have previous theater experience. Auditions are held twice a year in a casual and relaxed setting -- no preparation is required for the tryout (a short, improvisational skit). Once an actor is accepted, training is provided. Shows are in the Baltimore region and occur 2-4 times a month, with volunteers coming to presentations that fit their schedules. |

"Promoting
mental health for all Americans will require scientific know-how, but even
more importantly, a societal resolve that we will make the needed investment. The
investment does not call for massive budgets; it calls for the willingness
of each of us to educate ourselves and others about mental health and mental
illness, and to confront David Satcher, M.D., Ph.D.
