Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is the initial help given to someone developing a mental health problem or in a mental health crisis before appropriate professional or other assistance, including peer and family support, can be engaged.

Mental Health First Aid USA is coordinated nationally by the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, the Missouri Department of Mental Health and the National Council for Community Behavioral Healthcare in partnership with the Mental Health Association of Maryland.
