"How unobtrusively
history writes itself. The crucial moments are not the loud triumphs or
the catastrophes, but moments like these,
quiet and undramatic, when a light is struck in
the minds of men and a purpose is set on its way."

Clifford Beers
Founder, National Mental Health Association, 1909

Who We Are

The mission of the Maryland Coalition on Mental Health and Aging is to address the mental health needs of older persons by:

  • advocating to improve the quality and accessibility of mental health treatment for older persons
  • decreasing the stigma of mental and emotional problems
  • demonstrating the importance of prevention, support services and treatment measures for older adults with mental health needs
  • educating professionals, the general public, policy makers, and older individuals on the mental health issues of older adults
  • increasing outreach to enable older persons to recognize the need for and to use the services of mental health professionals, senior care professionals, support systems and relevant self-help programs

We achieve this mission through multiple programs of education and advocacy.
